Legal Expert - German Law

Summary

We are looking for a highly engaged and passionate full-time Legal Expert to join a rapidly growing challenger to the global credit rating oligopoly. The position is based in Berlin. The successful candidate will provide management with the guidance necessary to ensure that Scope operates in full compliance with the rule of law at all times. The role includes advising on all legal matters and serving as an effective guardian of the organisation. The candidate will safeguard Scope’s reputation by ensuring strict adherence to domestic and international corporate law requirements and by providing timely, practical legal advice to management on all relevant issues.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Provides accurate and timely legal counsel to executives across a broad range topics (e.g. business standards, contract law, commercial law and capital markets)
  • Partners with management to develop efficient defence strategies
  • Collaborates with internal departments to support business decisions and operations

  • Researches and assesses legal and regulatory risk factors related to business decisions and operations
  • Applies effective risk management techniques and provides proactive advice on potential legal issues
  • Communicates and negotiates with external parties to build trusted relationships

  • Reports professionally and in a timely manner to supervisors and management
  • Drafts and finalises agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to protect Scope’s legal rights
  • Manages complex matters involving multiple stakeholders and competing interests
  • Clarifies legal terminology, requirements, and implications of legal matters and actionsPerforms duties diligently, with integrity and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory changes

Professional & personal qualifications

  • Second State Examination (full German law degree)
  • At least 4 years of relevant professional experience, ideally as in-house legal counsel in a business environment Excellent knowledge of German civil law, general corporate law and related procedures
  • Experience supporting companies with initial public offerings (IPO) ambitions
  • Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory factors affecting a corporation
  • Proven track record of educating internal teams and stakeholders on the implementation of legal frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective defensive or proactive legal strategies
  • High professional ethics, integrity and openness, combined with a commitment to good governance
  • Ability to resolve practical legal issues efficiently and act as a trusted business partner to maintain high legal standards
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload in fast-paced environment and deliver results on time
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with strong collaborate skills
  • Sound judgement and the ability to analyse complex situations and information
  • Ability to perform under pressure and make sound decisions in critical situations
  • Outstanding communication skills, with a proven ability to influence stakeholders
  • Fluent in English and German; an additional European language is a plus
 

The compensation range disclosed may encompass multiple title levels (Scope internal levels of seniority). Your actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to your individual experience, education, and seniority, and the final salary will be determined during the interview and evaluation process.

Pay Band:  Senior Specialist - Legal
Minimum:  100,500.00 EUR
Maximum:  124,500.00 EUR
