Duties & responsibilities
- Acts as a lead analyst in Scope Ratings with a primary focus on real estate loans in the context of asset-based, project finance or structured finance transactions
- Leads the analysis and research on new and existing infrastructure and project finance transactions in different sectors
- Performs analysis both at the equity and the debt level
- Analysis involves quantitative and qualitative aspects and may require visiting project sites around Europe
- Proficiently studies project agreement, associated contracts and in general all relevant documentation, in the context of the legal framework, as well as key project parties, their roles and incentives to identify structural strengths and weaknesses of the credit exposure to be rated
- Defines stress assumptions for the assessment of performance under credit impairment event scenarios
- Modifies and runs project cash-flow models to incorporate the relevant stresses and obtains the expected loss under stress of rated instruments under different scenarios
- Contributes to building a strong analytical framework for infrastructure and project finance by defining the application of Scope’s project finance rating methodology to different sectors and project types
- Produces opinionated rating reports and sector research, demonstrating Scope’s fundamental understanding of credit risk in the context of infrastructure and project finance and its trends
- Participates in rating committees as lead analyst or independent member
- Supports investor, issuer and sponsor outreach, presenting and explaining Scope’s methodology and analytical approach at meetings, conferences and dedicated workshops
- Acts as primary point-of-contact for at least one relevant project finance sector (e.g. energy, infrastructure, transportation, social infrastructure), with both internal and external counterparts
Professional & personal qualifications
- 10+ years of post-graduate professional experience, of which 5+ years of experience in a large rating agency, a bank, a financial advisory or an investor’s credit risk team, with a clear focus on infrastructure and project finance
- In-depth knowledge of and relevant experience in energy, infrastructure and/or social infrastructure
- Master’s degree in engineering complemented with rigorous education in finance (preferred); or master’s degree in business, economics or finance
- MBA - & CFA preferred
- Familiarity with the diverse types of funding options in project finance such as term loans, project bonds, revolving facilities
- Knowledge of the relevant legal frameworks
- Ability to understand and identify key risk factors and to generate robust rating rationale
- Outstanding resource investigation capacity, able to process large amounts of documentation quickly and accurately
- Highly analytical, with an edge for strategy, fundamental and quantitative analysis
- Able to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
- Confident and professional appearance and high social and communication skills
- Accountable and reliable person of highest integrity
- Willingness to take responsibility with an entrepreneurial attitude
- Fluency in at least a major European language (German and / or French preferred) in addition to English
